Lawrenceville Seeking Interested Candidates For City Council
Lawrenceville Mayor and Council are seeking interested candidates to fill a temporary vacancy on City Council for Post 2.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Lawrenceville Mayor and Council are seeking interested candidates to fill a temporary vacancy on City Council for Post 2. The appointment will be to fulfill the remaining 11-month term that Councilman Tony Powell leaves behind with his recent resignation. The term will expire Dec. 31, 2019 and is up for election in the fall of this year with the new 4-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2020.
“The City’s Charter directs Mayor and Council members to appoint a qualified resident to fill a void in the event a council member should step down within a year of his or her expiring term,” said Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson. “This process offers any and all interested parties an equal opportunity to submit their name for candidacy and provides the existing Council with clear direction to keep the City moving forward.”
Interested candidates are encouraged to send letters of interest to the City Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Jan. 24, attesting to eligibility as both a registered voter and a city resident for one year prior to appointment date.
