15 Die On Georgia Roads Over Memorial Day Weekend
Among the fatalities were a couple on a motorcycle in Paulding County and a pedestrian hit by an SUV in Buford.
ATLANTA, GA — Fifteen people died in traffic accidents over the Memorial Day weekend, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The 78-hour holiday period began Friday at 6 p.m. and ended Monday just before midnight.
Statewide, troopers investigated 317 traffic crashes that resulted in 188 injuries. They also investigated nine fatal crashes which resulted in 11 traffic deaths.
Among the fatalities were a couple on a motorcycle in Paulding County and a pedestrian hit by an SUV in Buford.

Channel 2 Action News reports that 17 people died on Georgia roads in the same period. That was more than double the eight who died over the 2018 Memorial Day weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
In addition to crash investigations, state troopers arrested 317 people for driving under the influence. Troopers and other officers issued 9,536 citations and 9,714 warnings. Also, in Atlanta one person was cited for violating social-distancing requirements.
