MACON, GA — Thirty-two dogs were rescued from neglect Wednesday from a home in Macon, Georgia, with issues like hair loss and visual impairment.
The Atlanta Humane Society rescued Maltese, cocker spaniel and Chihuahua mixes after being contacted by Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare. The dogs are mostly adults in varying conditions, but many matted with hair loss. Some of the dogs have eye conditions, as well. The owner willingly signed them over to officials.
The effort was led by the Atlanta Humane Society's Cruelty Investigation Unit's Mike Perkins, director of Cruelty Investigation Division, and Jessica Rock, director of Legal Advocacy and Law Enforcement Support.

Eventually, the dogs will be up for adoption but it will take some time to get them medically cleared first, said Christina Hill, director of marketing and communications for Atlanta Humane Society. Some of the dogs may have to be in foster care first.
The Atlanta Humane Society's Cruelty Investigation Unit is newly formed and works with law enforcement and animal control agencies across Georgia. This unit also focuses on legislative work, advocacy and training. Rural areas often lack animal welfare resources, and we're proud to partner with these regions to help animals across our state.
