- The Gwinnett County health care facility that was in danger of permanently closing its doors has been saved. As previously reported, Peachtree Christian Health in Duluth has been operating an adult day care center for over two decades, but has recently fallen under financial strain. Three weeks ago the board voted to shut down the facility, but the director refused to give in. He launched a 'Save Our Center' campaign in an effort to raise $500,000 before Tuesday night - and he succeeded. The campaign also saw a sharp increase in enrollment at the facility. (WSB Atlanta)
- The murder conviction of a Gwinnett woman has been upheld by the Georgia Supreme Court. Tia Young was convicted in 2017 for murdering her husband. Her co-defendant, Harvey Lee, was indicted separately after Young was accused of attempting to commit a felony by tampering with evidence. Despite her appeals, the court has opted to uphold the murder conviction. (Patch)
- A video of a student attacking a Gwinnett County teacher has gone viral – and people are demanding change. During a class change at Discovery High School in Lawrenceville, a student began violently assaulting a teacher. Two other students intervened and were able to stop the fight. The student who attacked the teacher is facing criminal charges. (11ALIVE)
- Coleman Middle School in Gwinnett County has won a $10,000 "space makeover" for their school. The Duluth school was one of 30 finalists in the 2022 Sustaining Futures, Raising Communities program who applied during the open call over the summer. The program is sponsored by Saint-Gobain North America, based in Pennsylvania, and a total of $250,000 is being donated to schools. (Subscription: Gwinnett Daily Post)
