Black Lives Matter Demonstration Planned Wednesday For Loganville
Mayor Rey Martinez invited organizers to demonstrate at city hall rather than risk their safety marching down U.S. 78.

LOGANVILLE, GA — A peaceful protest at Loganville City Hall against the death of George Floyd is planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to social media posts and a statement from the mayor’s office.
Mayor Rey Martinez’s office said through an online statement that the organizers were invited to protest at city hall rather than risk their safety marching down U.S. 78.
Monroe Local News reported that the group originally had planned to march from the lawn on Main Street to the Loganville Police Department on Tom Brewer Road, where they would lie face down for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in honor of Floyd, who died in Minneapolis while being held down for that time by a policeman’s knee.

“We look forward to providing the support needed for residents to safely take part in this expression of the First Amendment,” the statement read.
Martinez has also invited several local pastors to participate, according to Robbie Schwartz, spokesperson for the City of Loganville.
