Here are the top stories in Loganville-Grayson today:

  1. The Rivian battle continues, but with the latest win for team Rivian. The Office of State Administrative Hearings recently denied a legal challenge regarding a stream buffer variance that had been approved by the EPA. The challenge was denied after it was declared that the EPA did consider the completed applications submitted by the State and the JDA prior to issuing the variance. Rivian can now expedite the grading work on the site. It is expected that the plant, being constructed on the Morgan-Walton County lines, will bring approximately 7,500 jobs to the area. (Newsbreak)
  2. The man arrested last week in Baton Rouge in connection with the disappearance and death of Walton County resident, Nathan Millard, has now been formally charged in the case. Derrick Perkins was charged with "unlawful disposal of remains, obstruction of justice, simple criminal damage to property, and failure to seek assistance." He had already been booked on access device fraud, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and probation violation. Police still do not believe that foul play was involved in Millard's death, however, his cause of death has not been released. (Newsbreak)
  3. Monday's Amber Alert, also known as a "Levi's Call," was canceled not long after it was issued. The 2 year old, who was reported missing from Rome, was "found safe," and a male suspect was arrested, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. (WECT)
  4. On Monday, the Georgia House passed Senate Bill 44, which would require minimum sentences for recruiting minors into a gang. The law would require that anyone convicted under Georgia's anti-gang law would be required to serve a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 25 years for enticing minors under the age of 17. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime data, Georgia's violent crime is increasing, and lawmakers believe that gangs are driving the uptick. Georgia is fighting violent crimes by trying to protect our most vulnerable population, and lawmakers are hopeful that measure like Senate Bill 44 will help. The bill is now heading to the Senate for approval. (Atlanta News First)
