  1. Three people were shot during an altercation that began at a park and ending at a nearby Ingles, in Conyers, over the weekend. Two victims were shot inside the car they were driving while one victim was shot while trying to flee. One shooting victim had to be air-lifted, while the other two victims were taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. Officials say that the shooting may have been the result of an attempted armed robbery, but they do not have additional information or a suspect in custody. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. Neighbors in a Barrow County community are shocked as they recover from an explosion early Saturday morning. A home exploded, leaving 3 people dead, while 4 additional people, who lived in the home, made it out before the fire got out of control. Officials say that the home contained multiple propane tanks, and that's what caused the explosions. Investigators are still working on figuring out the cause of the fire. (WSB Atlanta)
  3. An alert was issued, from Gwinnett County Fire & Emergency Services, to urge the public to come forward about a fire that caused damage to 6 Lawrenceville homes on March 5. Last Sunday, firefighters responded to a large grass fire at about 4:30 p.m. last Sunday afternoon. The fire damaged the exteriors of 6 homes and a privacy fence on the property of a 7th home. No families were displaced by the fire and there were no injuries. Investigators are asking that anyone with information about the grass fire to call the Gwinnett County Fire Investigations Section at 678-518-4890. (Access WDUN)

From my notebook:

  • The voice of Buford High School football, Cary Clayborn, will soon be heard at Coolray Field. The Flowery Branch native has recently been named as the Gwinnett Stripers new PA announcer. Clayborn was a top 12 finalist for the Atlanta Braves job, however, once he realized that he wasn't in the top 3, he sent his resume to the Stripers. About a week after Kevin Kraus was named as the Braves announcer, Clayborn was offered the job with the Stripers. He's looking at the gig as "a great opportunity" and he's "counting down the days until opening night." The Gwinnett Stripers open their season at Coolray Field on March 31. (Newsbreak)
  • Tickets for the American Legion Post 233 Dancing Through the Decades celebration are only $10 now. The dance will be held Saturday, March 18 at the Legion. Make sure to dress in your favorite decades attire for the costume contest. There are lots of door prizes and even a Dance contest! (Facebook)
  • The Georgia Senate approved a bill on crossover day to improve the penalty for anyone who "harasses, injures, or kills a police dog." Partly inspired by the, recently retired, Gwinnett County K9, Kai, the penalty would now come with a minimum of two years in jail and a $50,000 fine. The house subcommittee will now take up the bill for vote. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
