Fiery I-85 Crash Fatal For South Georgia Man: Gwinnett Police

A Ford F150 truck struck a Nissan Rogue early Monday morning on I-85 in Norcross. The truck rolled over and burst into flames.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A south Georgia man died early Wednesday morning in a fiery crash on Interstate 85 in Norcross, and a Gwinnett County Police officer was injured trying to rescue him.

Kyle Persing, 32, of Ochlocknee, died after his Ford F150 pickup truck rolled over and burst into flames near the Center Way bridge on northbound I-85.

Though details are still incomplete, investigators said they believe Persing either lost control of his truck or was trying to change lanes when he struck a Nissan Rogue, forcing both vehicles into the center median.

A Gwinnett County Police officer who tried to pull Persing from his burning truck was slightly injured. He was treated at a local hospital and released. The driver of the Nissan Rogue was also taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
