Here are the top stories in Loganville-Grayson today:
- A complaint from a Gwinnett citizen has surfaced regarding "a wrongful targeting" of a home in Norcross during a search warrant. The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office and the Gwinnett Metro Task Force executed the search warrant in February. Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office Chief Cleo Atwater said that they will "continue to be transparent to the public regarding all matters that relate to the Sheriff's Office and the agencies of which they supervise." The investigation into the incident will continue. (Atlanta News First)
- Dr. Audrey Arona is the district health director for GNR Public Health, serving Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale counties, and hopes that the new approval to sell naloxone over-the-counter will help spread the life-saving drug throughout the area. Reversing the effects of opioid overdoses, which have risen to dangerously high numbers, the availability of naloxone could save many lives. Arona said that much of the success of spreading Narcan kits through the area will rest with the cost that pharmaceutical companies attach to it. Organizations, like the nonprofit Navigate Recovery, are trying to help mitigate the financial barriers. Farley Barge, president of Navigate Recovery Gwinnett, is hoping to strategically place vending machines, containing Narcan, throughout the struggling areas of Gwinnett County. It may take several months before we see Narcan in stores. (Atlanta News First)
- Lawmakers have approved a state budget that will include paying full tuition for students receiving the HOPE Scholarship. Both the Senate and the House approved the $32.5 billion budget to include $2,000 raises for all state employees and public school teachers. Some state law enforcement will receive an additional $6,000. Lawmakers also agreed to spend more on mental health and funding for addiction treatment. Another highlight will include adding additional home services for 500 more individuals with intellectual or physical disabilities. (Fox News)

- There is a critical need for a rare blood type, for a member of the community, from rare, specialty donors. The individual is suffering from an acute sickle cell crisis, and LifeSouth is asking for help with this critical need. The best chance to find a compatible match is from African American donors. LifeSouth is testing 100 percent of African American donors for compatibility, and an uptick of donors from the community will be crucial to help. There is a LifeSouth location in Lawrenceville, and for more information on how to help, call 888-795-2707. (Monroe Local)
