Help Get Grayson Farmers Market On The National Map
The national contest will be determined by Sept. 9. Out of the top 100 farmers markets in the nation, Snellville holds the No. 1 spot.
The Top 100 Most Celebrated Farmers Markets listΒ for 2013 was released Tuesday, and Snellville Farmer's Market led the pack.Β
The list is part ofΒ American Farmland Trust'sΒ I Love My Farmers Market Celebration, whichΒ encourages consumers to pledge to spend $10 at their local farmers market. The pledges then go toward the market'sΒ ranking. Grayson's farmers market is only a few weeks old, so it has some ground to make up. But there is a way local supporters can help move it up the ranks.
The rankings are based on pledges to support the farmers market.Β Not only do pledges help aΒ customer'sΒ farmers market earn national recognitionβit also helps the community. For every $10 spent on local food, as much as $7.80 is re-spent in the local community, supporting local jobs and businesses. Also, the farmer takes home almost $8 to $9 instead of the $1.58 that farmers and ranchers receive when food is purchased through a retail market.
