Gwinnett Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide For Atlanta Crash

Two out-of-towners were killed when Anthony Philippe ran a red light in downtown Atlanta and struck their car, according to authorities.

ATLANTA, GA — A Lawrenceville man is charged with vehicular homicide in connection with a collision in downtown Atlanta that killed two people.

Anthony Michel Philippe, 31, was arrested by Atlanta Police after an early-morning July 5 crash on Andrew Young International Boulevard, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

According to the incident report obtained by the Atlanta newspaper, Philippe sped north on Piedmont Avenue after ramming two cars in the parking lot of a RaceTrac gas station.

Philippe’s 2019 Range Rover eventually ran a red light at the intersection of Piedmont and Andrew Young International boulevards, where it struck a 2017 Chevrolet Impala driven by Jonathan Wendell Parker of Amite, Louisiana.

Parker and a passenger, Desiree Deloris James of Marion, Indiana, died at the scene. Two other passengers, also from Amite, Louisiana, were taken in stable condition to Grady Memorial Hospital. Authorities did not provide information to the Atlanta newspaper on their conditions.

Police found an open bottle of Hennessy on the rear floorboard of Philippe’s Range Rover, according to the incident report.

Philippe was treated at Grady, then booked into the Fulton County Jail, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He remains in custody as Tuesday, charged with two felony counts of first-degree vehicular homicide and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving.
