Gwinnett Police Partner With Faith Groups For Community Outreach

Gwinnett County cops will join other police and churches throughout the country Oct. 9-11 as part of the National Faith and Blue Weekend.

GRAYSON, GA — Gwinnett police will partner with Grayson United Methodist Church and the Southeast Co-Op to help a local family pay for meals and a wheelchair ramp as part of a nationwide outreach on Oct. 9-10.

The Grayson fundraiser, conducted through the Bay Creek precinct, is one of eight throughout the county conducted by the Gwinnett County Police Department as part of the 2020 National Faith and Blue Weekend.

Held in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice, the Fraternal Order of Police and other groups, the event partners police departments with faith communities across the country in community-outreach projects.

Oct. 9

West Precinct is partnering with Peachtree Corners Baptist Church for a winter coat drive from 4-8 p.m. The church is located at 4480 Peachtree Corners Circle. Coats may be donated ahead of the event at donation points located at West Precinct lobby, 6160 Crescent Dr, Norcross; Central Precinct lobby, 3125 Hi Hope Road, Lawrenceville; Satellite Boulevard precinct, Duluth; and the Headquarters lobby, 770 Hi Hope Road, Lawrenceville. South Precinct is partnering with Mountain Park First Baptist Church to collect coats food, and toiletries for the Lilburn Co-Operative Ministry from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The church is located at 5485 Five Forks Trickum Road, Stone Mountain. Oct. 10

North Precinct is partnering with Sugar Hill Church for a food drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The church is located at 5091 Nelson Brogdon Blvd., Sugar Hill. For more information, contact Officer Michael Parker at Michael.Parker@GwinnettCounty.com .

East Precinct is partnering with North Metro Church and Amazing Grace Church for a one-day mission trip to include cleaning, electric work, painting, building a stage, and landscaping at the location to be used by several churches serving local Haitian, Hispanic, and Asian congregations. The Crime Prevention Unit and Crime Free Multi-Housing Unit is partnering with Hamilton Mill Methodist Church for a food drive from 8 a.m. to noon to feed more than 400 families. The Training Section, with members of the 107th and 108th police academy classes, is partnering with Bridge Community Church for a food drive and Touch-a-Truck event featuring patrol vehicles, the bomb truck and the Air-1 helicopter unit.
