Gwinnett Police To Provide Extra Patrols After Texas School Shooting

The Gwinnett Police Department will work with the GCPS School Police Department to conduct extra patrols after the Texas school shooting.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Security presence will be increased in Gwinnett County in wake of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas on Tuesday.

Nineteen children and two adults were killed. The shooter, identified as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, of Uvalde entered the school armed with a handgun and rifle. He barricaded himself inside a classroom and opened fire. Ramos was killed in the shooting by law enforcement officers, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said. The remainder of the school year has been canceled.

In response to the incident, the Gwinnett Police Department said it would be working with the GCPS School Police Department to conduct extra patrols and provide a “high visibility” presence at all schools within Gwinnett County

“We would like to offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims,” the department released in a statement.

Although there are no known threats to any Gwinnett County school, police officers will be on hand for the safety and comfort of residents, they said.
