Here are the top stories in Loganville-Grayson today:
- The Gwinnett County Police has created a new Gun Crimes Unit to help combat gun violence. Combining "technology, investigations, and community awareness," police hope to prevent gun-related crimes by being proactive. The fingerprint technology helps police study "extreme close-ups of shell casings collected from crime scenes," and connect crimes using a central database. The police are also working with the community to educate the public on gun safety, as 91 percent of guns stolen are taken from cars. Gun safety classes will be held on March 15 and April 12. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Barrow County Sheriff's deputies arrested 18-year-old Edwin Emiliano Rodriguez-Pena, from Athens for the shooting of a juvenile at the popular shopping center, Barrow Crossing, last weekend. The juvenile was transported to the hospital, with multiple gunshot wounds, for treatment. Rodriguez-Pena was charged with multiple felonies, and is being held at Barrow County jail, however, no motive for the shooting has been released. (Monroe Local)
- The family of Nathan Millard have been told that he most likely died from an accidental overdose, after he went missing in Baton Rouge, however, toxicology reports are still pending. The autopsy showed "no internal or external trauma" to his body. Although his body was found wrapped in plastic and in a rug, investigators do not believe his death was related to any "foul play." Surveillance video shows that he appeared at locations under his own power showing no signs of distress from the Wednesday night he disappeared until the next Thursday at about 4:30 a.m. The investigation is ongoing, and police want to talk with the person or persons who may have moved Millard's body to the location where he was discovered. If anyone has information, please call Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867. (WLBT)
