  1. Gwinnett County Sheriff Keybo Taylor announced the launch of the office's Holiday Task Force. The purpose of the task force is to "deter crime as the county prepares for the increase in holiday traffic," according to Sheriff Taylor. Beginning on Nov. 23, sworn personnel will conduct area checks of local neighborhoods, businesses, churches, and schools. (Rolling Out)
  2. The Greater Eastside Chamber of Commerce's Chili Cookoff returns this Saturday, Nov. 12 at Bay Creek Park. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests can enjoy some of the community's finest chili (or enter, if they're feeling bold!). While general admission to the event is free, taste-testing tickets are $10 per person, while chili-tasting booths are $60. (Eventbrite)
  3. It's been a banner weekend for Loganville High School sports teams! On Saturday, Nov. 5, the school's competition cheer team qualified for the GHSA State Sweet Sixteen, happening this weekend in Macon. Also on Nov. 5, the boys' and girls' cross country teams headed to the GHSA State Meet; the boys placed 12th and the girls placed 18th overall. Congratulations to all the student-athletes!   4. Yesterday, the Justice Department announced plans to monitor compliance with federal voting rights laws in 64 jurisdictions — including Gwinnett County. Civil Rights Division personnel will be available throughout the day to field any complaints related to potential violations of voting rights laws. According to a press release from the department, the Civil Rights Division has regularly monitored elections around the U.S. since the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
