Join The Club: GA Now One Of Nine States With 100K COVID-19 Cases
Georgia is one of 9 states with 100K in COVID-19 cases and reported over 3,400 new cases Tuesday, almost setting another one-day record.
ATLANTA, GA — Georgia’s health department reported Tuesday more than 3,400 new COVID-19 cases and counted more than 100,000 cases total for the first time.
Georgia now joins New York, California, Florida, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, Massachusetts and Arizona in reporting more than 100,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.
Tuesday’s 3,406 new cases isn’t a single-day record, but it’s close. The record for most new COVID-19 cases in a day in Georgia is 3,472, reported on July 2.

In its daily report released at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, the Georgia Department of Public Health also reported 2,899 deaths from COVID-19, 21 more than reported Monday. In addition, the state reported 12,226 hospitalizations and 2,471 admissions to intensive-care units.
No information is available from Georgia about how many patients have recovered.

As of Tuesday, more than 1.15 million Georgians have been tested for COVID-19, with about 15 percent for the less reliable tests for antibodies. About 8.7 percent of all tests came back positive.
Counties in or near metro Atlanta continue to have the highest number of cases, with Gwinnett still in the lead.
- Gwinnett County: 9,972 confirmed cases
- Fulton County: 9,066 confirmed cases
- DeKalb County: 7,158 confirmed cases
- Cobb County: 6,082 confirmed cases
- Hall County: 3,475 confirmed cases
Counties in or near metro Atlanta also continue to have the highest number of deaths. The lone exception is Dougherty County, the site of Georgia's first major outbreak.
- Fulton County: 316 deaths
- Cobb County: 247 deaths
- DeKalb County: 174 deaths
- Gwinnett County: 173 deaths
- Dougherty County: 155 deaths

Globally, nearly 11.7 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 540,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Tuesday. In the United States, nearly 3 million people have been infected and nearly 131,000 people have died from COVID-19.
The U.S. has more confirmed cases and deaths than any other country.
