LCA Heads into Tonight's Playoff Game Undefeated
Loganville Christian Academy Lions face Creekside Christian in the first game of the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia-Alabama football playoffs Nov. 2 at Young Americans in Conyers.
Your Loganville Christian School Lions ran the regular season table with a 48-14 win over nearby rival Covenant Christian Academy, in the Battle At Bay Creek finishing with their 1st undefeated season under head coach Andre King.
The Lions (8-0) now prepare for the first round of playoffs in the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia-Alabama league.
In the Covenant game, fireworks came early and often. Before fans got settled in their seats, LCAās Tyler Browning returned the opening kick-off for a touchdown only to see it negated by a holding penalty. Swapping possessions took most of the 1st quarter before the Lions got their first score that counted when Nic Snowden connected with Browning for a 29-yard touchdown. Kevin Gillelandās point after was good and LCA jumped on top 7-0. Snowden finished the night going 10 for 15 and 125 yards, putting him over the 1,000 yard mark for the season. āI think itās really special to have two players go over 1,000 yards, especially since weāve only played eight games,ā said Coach King.

As the quarter was drawing to a close, Matt Lype scored the 1st of his 2 touchdowns on the night with an 11-yard run. LCAās lead stood at 13-0. Lype finished the night with 218 yards rushing and also surpassed the 1,000 milestone for the year. He reached that milestone in style with a 91 yard touchdown run late in the 4th quarter. Covenant attempted an onside kick that was unsuccessful and LCA took possession at midfield. After swapping possessions, LCA finally got another score on a 5 yard run by Logan Forrester with just over 3 minutes left in the 1st half and the score stood at 19-7.
Freshman quarterback Donovan Taitt took the helm in the Lionsā 1st possession of the 2nd half. He quickly led the Lions on a drive that featured a heavy dose of Senior Matt Lype. Sophomore Logan Forrester would finish the drive with a 4-yard run. With a good point after, LCA was up 25-7. A Covenant fumble would give the Lions the ball at midfield with 2:22 left in the 3rd quarter, where Snowden connected with Josh Owen for another score and with a good point after, LCA extended their lead to 33-7. Junior Nic Snowden would run it in for a 1-yard touchdown, but it was the 91-yard run by Lype that drove the last nail in the coffin to seal the win. In 7 of 8 victories, LCA has scored 33 or more points. The most they have allowed any team was 19 points. Senior Kevin Gilleland was 4 out of 5 on PATs.

The Lions Defense would again be very stingy on the night, only allowing 14 points. Paden Hood led all LCA tacklers with 14. Others with multiple stops on the night were Freshman defensive back Cole Cook with 7 tackles, Sophomore linebacker Logan Forrester with 8 tackles, Sophomore Josh Owen with 8 tackles, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery, Senior Matt Lype with 7 tackles, and Junior Tyler Browning added 5 stops. The Lionsā defense has been a vital part in the teamās success this year. They have forced their opponents to relinquish the ball to the offense in great field position.
Due to league decisions, tonight's Independent Christian Schools of Georgia-Alabama playoff game between the LCA Lions and Creekside Christian will be played at Young Americans Christian School in Conyers. This will be a rematch of the Sept. 20 fall break bowl hosted by Creekside earlier this season where the Lions defeated the Cougars.
