Online-Romance Scam Leads To Indictments For Gwinnett Man
A Gwinnett man accused of stealing more than $50,000 online from a lonely senior citizen now faces indictments for theft by taking.
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A Lawrenceville man accused of using an online-romance scam to steal more than $50,000 from a senior citizen has been indicted on four counts of theft by taking.
The office of Georgia’s attorney general is alleging that Borin Khoun targeted an older man in California, taking the money in four separate installments in late November 2020. A Gwinnett County Superior Court grand jury handed down the indictment on Wednesday.
“Our Prosecution Division is committed to stopping criminals who perpetrate identity theft and financial fraud,” said Attorney General Chris Carr. “People who prey on older, at-risk adults and try to capitalize on their vulnerability or loneliness must be held accountable.”
