'Risk of Tornado' Today for Walton and Gwinnett

Hazardous weather is forecast for the area Monday.

All that lovely spring weather over the weekend soon will be a distant memory - a least for a little while. Forecasts are for hazardous weather for the area Monday evening (March 18).

The National Weather Service says in a statement that storms will move into the area in the afternoon.

The alert says "strong to severe storms with large hail" are possible, with the "risk of an isolated tornado." New rainfall amounts from one-fourth to one-half of an inch are possible.

The NWS alert says in part:

AN AREA OF SHOWERS AND EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE ACROSS ALABAMA AND INTO WEST GEORGIA LATER THIS MORNING. STORMS WILL INTENSIFY THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON AND SPREAD OVER THE REMAINDER OF THE AREA WITH THE THREAT FOR STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS WITH LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS AND A RISK OF AN ISOLATED TORNADO.
