Here are the top stories in Loganville-Grayson today:

  1. The City of Lawrenceville is taking a pause to reevaluate the zoning a six-block area of downtown. It was recently announced that the city placed a six-month moratorium on all new permits in a specific section of downtown, including Buford Drive, Mill Street, Chestnut Street, N. Clayton Street and several more streets that run through the perimeter of the six-block area. The moratorium should give the city time to recommend zoning changes. Residents expressed their frustrations at a recent council meeting citing that they had no warning of the moratorium, and there is no indication as to the direction that the city will go with the zoning. Homeowners in the area are concerned that any changes may negatively affect property values. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  2. A letter was recently mailed to all alumni of the Greater Atlanta Christian School to kick off an investigation into the possible of sexual misconduct of a former teacher. A social media post, by a former student, prompted the prominent Gwinnett County private school to hire an outside investigator to look into the allegations. Attorney Laura Kirschstein with T&M USA, has been hired to lead the investigation. The former student indicated that a teacher, who has not taught with the school for over 20 years, abused them in the 1980's. The school has sent letters out to ask anyone that may have experienced any form of abuse to come forward. Another letter to current students and parents indicates that the investigation is focused on past abuse and outlined the current policies for screening all employees, visitors, and special guests, and how they are keeping students safe. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  3. Take a look at the best and worst travel times during the spring break holiday. According to the Georgia DOT, traveling Monday through Thursday are actually the best days with normal traffic flow, but the weekends that sandwich spring break carry heavy afternoon and evening traffic. Late afternoons and evenings seem to carry the worst traffic, no matter which day you're traveling, so if you can plan around those time periods, you should have a more stress-free ride. Stay safe!
