Here are the top stories in Loganville-Grayson today:

  1. It was a busy end to the weekend for Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services. Crews responded to two house fires Sunday evening, and there were no reports of injury at either fire. One of the homes was heavily involved with fire and smoke from the second floor. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The second home appeared to suffer less damage, and the cause of that fire is also still being investigated. The details of a business fire have yet to emerge, however, crews were called to a fire at a Gwinnett business the same night as the two house fires. (Atlanta News First)
  2. Gwinnett County recently allocated funds to "Explore Gwinnett, the county's tourism and hospitality arm," which was greatly impacted by coronavirus pandemic. Gwinnett County received federal Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery funds and gave the sector $500,000 to stimulate growth in the arts and entertainment industries. Half of the funds will be used to lease license plate readers to area hotels, Coolray Field, and Gas South District to help prevent car break ins and thefts. Other funds will be used to support Gwinnett students that want to enter the entertainment fields, and $100,000 will be dedicated to Explore Gwinnett's Arts Recovery Program, helping nonprofits pay rent and utilities. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. Neiana Ransome, 25, was found shot to death at a Lawrenceville home, according to Gwinnett police. After responding to a person shot call, police found Ransome in the basement of the Lake Washington Circle home deceased from a gunshot. The Gwinnett Homicide Unit is investigating a motive for the fatal shooting, but they believe that it may have been the result of a domestic dispute. Police are asking for anyone with information to call Detectives at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers, to report information anonymously, at 404-577-8477. Ransome's homicide is the third homicide in just four days in the Lawrenceville area. One arrest was made in the death of Rubi Nava, however, police are still investigating the shooting of Royce Wiley, Jr. as well. (Monroe Local)
  4. In response to the recent drowning death of a 4-year-old boy at the Yellow River Park, Gwinnett fire officials want to remind parents of the dangers of flowing water and rivers. As the weather warms and people get outside, adults and children enjoy wading in what may seem like harmless streams and waters. Any moving water carries dangers, especially after recent rains with debris washing down stream. The recent drowning was in part from the debris that the young boy was tangled in when his body was discovered. Anytime someone is near moving water, officials recommend wearing a life vest or some type of life preserver, even if you consider yourself a good swimmer. River conditions can change quickly leading to tragedy. (WSB Atlanta)
