Here are the top five stories today in Loganville-Grayson:

  1. A Loganville City Council meeting has been called for this Thursday, Sep. 15, at 9:00 a.m. at City Hall and streamed live on YouTube. According to the published agenda at the time of this writing, the Council will meet to discuss directives for the city's marketing firm for the downtown area.   2. Gwinnett County Public Schools has officially invited families, students, Gwinnett County residents, and GCPS staff members to participate in the school district’s review of the proposed curriculum for 97 courses. The review began on Sept. 12 and is expected to run through Oct. 6 and will address Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) for select courses in Career and Technical Education, Language Arts, World Languages, Mathematics, and Social Studies.   3. The Loganville Cross Country team had an outstanding day on Saturday at the prestigious Milton Invitational Meet. The Boy's team had a Top 10 finish led by Myles Byrd, Ani Tesfaye, Colin Allred, Tyler Boyett, Trent Sekowski, and Avery Smith. The Girl's team finished third in their race and was led by Paige Sandidge, Abby Dawson, Leah Stewart, Emily Young, Jada Herbert, Amelia Keathley, and Sarah Mann.   4. The Gwinnett County Public Library is hosting two virtual events today for local residents who want to share their joy of reading and stories from the comfort of home. Storytime LIVE! is a fun storytime experience with stories, songs, and games and will be hosted on Google Meet. Open Your World Book Club is a club for adults or teens with intellectual and developmental disabilities and includes reading and/or listening to adapted versions of classic short stories and novels.   5. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into an officer-involved shooting in Walton County. At the time of publication, few details have been released, but officials say at least one suspect was injured and it was not immediately clear where along the highway the shooting took place. The Sheriff’s Office said no deputies were injured and asked the GBI to investigate. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)

  • If you have a college-bound student, "Pay For College Night" is happening at the Loganville High School theater on Sep. 28 from 6 to 7 p.m. Guest speaker, Brenda Vaughn, from the Georgia Student Finance Commission, will be available to answer parents' questions.
