Here are the top three stories in Macon today:
- On Saturday, Apr. 15, a 67-year-old man was shot in the 2900 block of Churchill Street in Macon. The victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME. (41 NBC News)
- Noel Roblee, a resident of Macon, took a wrong turn and accidentally submerged the back end of her 2017 Toyota Tacoma pickup into an agricultural pond. There was one human passenger and three canines in the vehicle at the time of the incident. The two dogs riding in the back of the truck passed away despite life-saving efforts. According to American Humane, "Around 100,000 dogs die every year as a result of riding unsecured in a truck bed." (Dog Time)
- For Macon-Bibb's Earth Day celebrations, the Fringed Campion chapter of the Georgia Native Plant Society will host activities in the Georgia native plant garden in Amerson River Park in Macon on Apr. 22. Activities include the native plant sale, a kid zone activity, and garden tours and trellis building at the Native Plant Garden and Monarch Waystation. Many plants in the garden have been rescued from construction sites by the Georgia Plant Rescue program. The Society hopes the native plant garden will be a resource for migrating monarch butterflies, support Georgia bees, and be a learning resource for the community. (13WMAZ.com)
