Here are the top three stories today in Macon:
- Macon District Attorney Anita Howard announced over the weekend that she is planning to seek re-election for her position. In December 20202, Howard won 70 percent of the vote to become the first African American as well as the first woman to be elected as district attorney of the Macon Judicial Circuit. (13WMAZ.com)
- Dozens of Macon community members and officials gathered together over the weekend for the 5th community-wide "Clean Streets Mater" cleanup event here in Macon. The volunteers focused on cleaning up old signs and litter along Mercer University Drive by the old Macon Mall. The event was started in 2021 by Macon-Bibb County and Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful. - Central High School and Miller Magnet Middle School both went under brief lockdowns on Monday after gunfire was reported in a nearby neighborhood. At the time of the gunfire, classes had already been dismissed at Central High School, and there were only a few students outdoors. The lockdowns were lifted after the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, and Campus Police cleared the area of threats. (41 NBC News)
