Here are the top three stories today in Macon:

  1. On Friday, Mar. 3, a mother and her teenage daughter died due to a fire at north Macon apartment complex. The fire started around midnight at the Element apartment complex, located at 3896 Riverside Drive, and a reporter saw at least five fire trucks working to extinguish it. According to Deputy Bibb County Coroner Ronnie Miley, 17-year-old Shaterrika Booze did not make it out of the fire and died around 3:10 a.m. while her mother, 50-year-old Vallera Booze died later at a trauma center in Macon. 3. The Cherry Blossom Festival is just two weeks out, but Carolyn Crayton Park is littered with trash. A homeless encampment, tires, garbage, and more crowd the park's Walnut Street entrance. Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Executive Director, Asha Ellen, announced a county-wide clean-up happening today, Mar. 4, in partnership with Macon-Bibb County and other organizations. The clean-up is 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and any local residents who would like to help clean up can meet in the first parking lot at the Walnut Street entrance. (13WMAZ.com)
