Alleged Milo's Shooter Is a Convicted Felon

Dennis Lee Hampton, the man who allegedly shot a Sandy Springs man early Sunday morning at Milo’s Bar and Grill, should have never had a gun.

According to new information contained in a Cobb County criminal warrant, the Marietta man was convicted Feb. 24, 2000, of aggravated assault, a felony.

That is why he is being held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the shooting death of 34-year-old Takilam Terrell.

Just before 3 a.m. Sunday, the men got in a physical altercation. During the altercation, Hampton allegedly produced a 9mm handgun while Terrell was lying on the ground in a defenseless position, stood over him, and fired a shot in Terrell's torso, according to the new information in the warrant.

Terrell was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and died.

Hampton, 42, surrendered to Cobb authorities Tuesday. In addition to the possession charge, he faces three other charges, including aggravated assault, murder and murder during commission of a felony.

Two other suspects were apprehended Tuesday afternoon at an East Cobb apartment complex. The Cobb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit arrested 36-year-old Trina Lesley Chatman and 48-year-old Joseph Ricky Hampton at the Bentley Manor Apartments, Cobb Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Nancy Bodiford said.

They are in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond on charges of aggravated assault and murder.
