Cobb School Bus Drivers, Monitors Get $1,200 Retention Bonuses For The Second Time

Eligible bus drivers and monitors in Cobb County Schools got $1,200 bonuses in their December payroll, and will get another in May.

COBB COUNTY, GA — Six months after approving $1,200 retention bonuses for veteran school bus drivers and monitors, Cobb County School District officials have approved another round of bonuses.

Cobb Schools bus drivers and monitors already employed at the time of the announcement, which came Tuesday, will receive $1,200 in their May payroll, officials said.

However, new hires still have the opportunity to earn a bonus at the end of the spring semester — bus drivers and monitors hired after the announcement and employed by Feb. 28 will receive $1,000 in their May payroll.

“Our bus drivers and monitors are the reason 70 percent of our students make it to school every day. They are valuable members of our Cobb Schools team, and we want to make sure we keep them on our team. At the same time, we also have the opportunity to hire new safety-minded professionals,” Chief Operations Officer Marc Smith said in a news release.

Superintendent Chris Ragsdale announced the first $1,200 retention bonus in August 2021, which was distributed in the December 2021 payroll for all bus drivers and monitors employed by Sept. 24, 2021.
