Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No.
Age
61
Previous public office, appointive or elective
No.
Why are you seeking this office?
I am running, because the voice of the common sense, compassionate, moderate Democrat has not been heard in this district for a number of years. Plus it is time for new leadership.
I am an attorney with attention to detail who enjoys helping people resolve their conflicts. These skills will benefit me as the next Commissioner for District 3 as I work hard to improve the quality of life of the community.
Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___, and this is what I intend to do about it.
If I had to choose one, since we are still in a pandemic, I will say a strong healthy community. I intend to do everything possible to ensure the community continues to have information and resources to help them with rental assistance, small business loans, utility assistance, etc. In addition, the public safety leaders and staff will be supported as they continue to engage and help our community through the pandemic.
I will also add, that a strong community begins with a good faith engagement and working relationships with those on the County Commission Board as well those associated with agencies, committees, home owner’s association, planning groups, etc. who work with the Cobb County Board. Civility, honestly, ethics are critical when working with others.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
1. I am not a career politician. 2. I strongly believe that affordable housing is extremely important. 3. I am not a Republican. 4. I support mass transit in Cobb County.
If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?
At this time, I am uncertain who the Republican nominee will be since the Primary Election is May 24.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
The budget, is extremely important to me and to the community. I take this responsibility very seriously. I also support programs and resources for our youth, veterans and seniors. Zoning decisions are critical to both the community and businesses. Greenspace is very important to our physical as well as mental health and must be addressed. Finally, transparency of the process of government is critical in order to build trust with the community.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I am an attorney who helps people during one of the most difficult and stressful times in their life. I also work with opposing counsel who is doing the same thing for his or her client. My job calls for me to work with opposing counsel while trying to assist my client and obtain the best possible outcome for my client. As a trial attorney with 27 years of experience, I am ready to hit the ground running as the next District 3 Cobb County Commissioner.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
A friend of mine introduced me to Micah 6:8 Act Justly; Love Mercy; and Walk Humbly
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
Civility is very important to me when working with others. There is no need for mean-spiritedness. We will have differences, but we will also have things we agree on. Let's work towards the things we agree on! And, yes, the glass is ALWAYS half full!
