Candidates Running For The 6th District: A List

MARIETTA, GA -- Eighteen candidates have declared intentions to run in the race to represent the 6th District, which spans from East Cobb to north DeKalb and north Fulton counties.

The contest is shaping up to be a litmus test of the influence of President Trump's ideology, the Republican old guard and Democrats looking to tip the scales in their favor.

The race is to replace former U.S. Rep. Tom Price, who was confirmed as the Trump Administration's secretary of Health and Human Services.
Here are the candidates -- 11 Republicans, five Democrats and two Independents -- who have declared that they will run for office to serve the District 6:
David Abroms: A business executive who runs a clean fuel conversion company is reportedly a former congressional aide.
Mohammad Ali Bhuiyan: The Asian-American economist is running on a platform to curtail “out of control” government spending.
Bob Gray: As a Trump ally, the former Johns Creek Councilman is running to remove the "political elite" in Washington.
Keith Grawert: He is a major in Air National Guard. He lives in Dunwoody.
Karen Handel: A resident of District 6 for 22 years and former Secretary of State, she wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act and cut government spending.
Judson Hill: The former state Senator enjoys strong support from his Cobb County base. Hill is well known to Georgia voters, having ascended in conservative circles as an Assistant District Attorney in the Reagan Administration.
Amy Kremer: A favorite of local Tea Party members, the Roswell political activist's profile rose dramatically after a 2016 CNN appearance in which she eviscerated Hillary Clinton's record.
Bruce LeVell: During the 2016 presidential campaign, the businessman was the executive director of Trump's National Diversity Coalition. He has been photographed numerous times with Trump, buoying his popularity with conservatives.
William Llop: The self- employed CPA has offices in Sandy Springs and Macon, Georgia. He's betting his knowledge of tax law and economics will pay big dividends in Congress.
Dan Moody: The retired Army Reserves captain is an electrical engineer by trade and is "known for taking on the hard jobs" he says. He stands to benefit from strong ties to former Gov. Sonny Perdue.
Kurt Wilson: The Roswell businessman is the president of the NA Foodservice, a Zaxby’s licensee. He also owns a cigar shop and partners a real estate firm. He is running on a platform to rein in the "out-of-control political machine" in Washington, D.C.

Democrats:
Ragin Edwards: The East Cobb senior sales manager is hoping to capitalize on anti-Trump sentiment in the conservative-leaning district.
Richard Keatley: The assistant professor of Italian and French at Georgia State University is running on a platform of change. The Tucker resident has said that the city was gerrymandered into the 6th District in 2007 to shore up Republican support in Washington.
Jon Ossoff: The former congressional aide is an investigative filmmaker who has drummed up substantial support using a grassroots campaign built around resisting Trump. He has also been endorsed by U.S. Rep. John Lewis of the 5th District.
Rebecca Quigg: A physician, Quigg believes in health care reform and has served as a consultant with ‎Enroll America, a health care enrollment coalition.
Ron Slotin: The former state senator and Sandy Springs entrepreneur enjoys strong support from Atlanta’s Jewish community.
Independents:
Alexander Hernandez: The Dunwoody resident is running on a platform of "Faith, Family, Liberty and Justice for all. "My plan is simple: You put people first, always," he says in a campaign video.
Andre Pollard: The computer systems engineer based out of Milton is running for "the Tech Party," which believes in promoting the American brand worldwide and tech access for all.

The special election, the earliest in the Trump era, will be held April 18. The 6th District covers parts of Cobb, Fulton and DeKalb counties including these cities: Brookhaven, Northlake, Tucker, East Cobb, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Roswell, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Chamblee and Doraville,
