  1. The City of Marietta is offering its free seven-week 2023 Citizens’ Government Academy course starting Mar. 16. The course is open to any city resident or business owner over the age of 18 and will feature tours of city facilities and overviews of services from city staff. Enrollment is limited to the first 25 students to register. Students can submit the registration form to Pam Peacock at ppeacock@mariettaga.gov or register online. Registration is open now through Friday, Feb. 24. (Cobb County Courier)
  2. The Marietta school board will consider purchasing new laptops for students and upgrading wireless connectivity. Marietta Superintendent Grant Rivera proposed on Tuesday that the board replace Chromebooks approaching the end of their lifecycle with 2,000 new Chromebooks. This would include the replacement of 600 wireless access points and a software upgrade. The district would pay $790,000 from its technology fund to Minnesota-based Trafera for the laptops and $500,290 to Alpharetta-based SmartWave Technologies for the wireless network improvements. The deal also includes four years of accidental damage protection. (Yahoo News)
  3. A man in Cobb County attacked a local pretzel store employee after the store ran out of cinnamon nuggets. The incident took place at Auntie Anne's restaurant in Cumberland Mall. Elijah Johnson said things escalated when the customer threw a drink at him and hit him on the side of the face. Latonya Hopkins was with her daughter when she heard the commotion and recorded the viral video. (WSBTV)
