Cobb County Man Accused Of Killing And Burying Girlfriend Denied Bond

The man accused of killing his girlfriend was already on pretrial release for kidnapping and aggravated assault charges tied to the victim.

COBB COUNTY, GA — A Cobb County man who admitted to killing his girlfriend and burying her body will remain in jail while he awaits trial, according to a report.

Cecil McCrary, 56, of Mableton, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the death of 45-year-old Tange Davis, Cobb County police said in a statement. At the time of Davis's death, police said McCrary was out on pretrial release for kidnapping and aggravated assault charges related to multiple domestic violence incidents between him and the victim.

On Oct. 11, shortly before 7 p.m., Cobb County Police Officers responded to the Lidl grocery store located at 4844 Floyd Road in Mableton after receiving a 911 call reporting a missing person.

When officers arrived, they spoke with Davis's son, who said he had not heard from his mother since Oct. 9, which was highly unusual for her. Using OnStar, police said he was able to locate his mother’s silver Chevrolet Equinox parked in the Lidl parking lot.

During the initial investigation, police said McCrary arrived at the scene and confirmed that Davis was his girlfriend and that she was last seen at his residence. He provided the officer with security footage showing her leaving his property on that night.

An officer then entered Davis into the national missing persons database through the Georgia Crime Information Center. The Cobb County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit then assumed the investigation from patrol and spent the following days attempting to locate her.

On Tuesday, Cobb County police issued a public alert on social media requesting the community’s assistance in locating Davis. Later that evening, McCrary was taken into custody and interviewed by authorities.

During that interview, police said he admitted to killing Davis and burying her body in Atlanta. Following this admission, the Atlanta Police Department was notified. Detectives from the Cobb County Police Major Crimes Unit responded to the location, where they discovered a woman's remains.

“This loss devastates all of us,” said Cobb County Police Chief Dan Ferrell. “Our hearts are with her family, and we are reminded that behind every statistic is a person, a mother, a friend, a colleague whose life mattered. We remain committed to protecting those at risk to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.”

McCrary appeared in court on Thursday night wearing a green safety smock with his hands cuffed, Fox 5 Atlanta reported. Judge John Strauss read three warrants filed against him, which accuse him of aggravated assault and murder, theft and concealing Davis' body.

McCrary will appear before a Superior Court judge on Nov. 12 to again determine if he is eligible for bond.
