Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:

  1. Cobb County has been sued by the individuals that requested an absentee ballot but never received one. The lawsuit is asking a judge to require the county to mail ballots by overnight mail and to extend the state's deadline for absentee ballot returns. Cobb County election officials acknowledged that they failed to mail over 1,000 absentee ballots. (Subscription: AJC.com)
  2. The Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division will be monitoring Cobb County's General Election. The division will be enforcing federal voting rights laws.   3. The Marietta City Council is considering an appointment to the Civil Service Board. The Board hears issues related to the city's civil service employees. The City Council is allowed to appoint two of the five Board members. The City Council is currently accepting applications from interested individuals. Click for application information.
