Cobb Officer Shot On Duty Is Home From Hospital
The Cobb County police officer shot at point-blank range last weekend is home and recovering, the department said.
COBB COUNTY, GA — A Cobb County Police Department officer who was shot as point-blank range during a domestic dispute call last weekend is now home and recovering, CCPD officials said.
The shooting, which happened last Sunday around 4 p.m. on North Shores Road in Acworth, led to a three-hour manhunt for the suspect: Luis Rey Ruiz, 20, of Kennesaw. Police and Cobb County SWAT found him in the same neighborhood where they say he shot the arriving officer, and around 7:30 p.m. SWAT team members shot and killed him, Patch previously reported.

According to CCPD Sgt. Wayne Delk, a spokesperson for the department, the officer was wearing a protective vest. Delk said this likely saved his life.
The officer's name has not been released, but police said he is "home with his family and doing well," according to a department Facebook post.
