Scheduled to open later in the Fall Semester, the 5,277 square foot facility will be more than double the size of the original library that opened in 1989.

β€œWhen this campus and its original buildings were designed, we were looking at serving a much smaller student population,” Chattahoochee Technical College Vice President for Facilities David Simmons said. β€œThe needs are different now and this renovation and construction will address that.”

Construction consists of an addition to the existing 2,400 square feet of library space, plus a mezzanine study area. The final design also includes a circulation desk, librarian office, workroom, computer carrels and two study rooms for small groups.Β Β

The renovations are expected to allow a doubling of the number of computers and study space available originally. The $834,271 contract for the project went to Prime Construction.

β€œThe most interesting feature is that it will feature a mezzanine or loft for students to use for reading, studying, or working on group projects with classmates,” Chattahoochee Technical College Director for Libraries Barbe Moore said. β€œWhile the building is only one story, the angled ceiling design is allowing the space to be built out as a mezzanine area.”
