Here are the top three stories in Marietta today:

  1. The Marietta City Council approved a developer's request to build 600 homes on land off of Bells Ferry Road. Cobb County had been attempting to block the rezoning and annexation of the previously unincorporated land, and some residents also opposed the decision during a public hearing on Wednesday. (Yahoo! News)
  2. Marietta's early childhood learning centers invited parents and caregivers of children as well as other members of the community to learn more about its reading development program. The Emily Lembeck Early Learning Center, which is the pre-K center for Marietta City Schools, developed a framework program to help children develop literacy and language skills. Multiple other early childhood learning centers have since adopted the program. (Yahoo! News)
  3. Cobb County officials cautioned residents from going into Austell on Thursday after the most recent storm swept through the area and caused extensive damage to structures and streets. In particular, a warehouse was damaged, several homes reported trees fallen on them, and some roads were closed due to fallen debris. (Marietta Patch)
