Dogs Test Positive For 'Strep Zoo' At Cobb Animal Shelter
The Cobb County animal shelter will remain closed after two dogs tested positive for a contagious bacterial infection.
COBB COUNTY, GA — The Cobb County animal shelter will remain closed after two dogs tested positive for “strep zoo" last week.
It’s a highly contagious bacterial infection, county officials said Wednesday.
The shelter closed after six pets became sick. Samples were sent to the University of Georgia’s Veterinary School and showed that at least two dogs tested positive for streptococcus zooepidemicus. It’s an infection that affects the respiratory system and spreads quickly among animals in close contact.
