Eight Cobb Schools Make U.S. News’ Best In Georgia List

Walton High School in Marietta is top school in Cobb County, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2017 list for Best Schools in Georgia.

MARIETTA, GA -- Cobb County is thoroughly represented on the U.S. News & World Report’s 2017 list for Best Schools in Georgia, with one of the schools even making the top 10.

Walton High School in Marietta came in at No. 5 on the list, while Lassiter followed in the top 20. Other schools that made the list spanned from West Cobb to the northeastern end of the county. The rankings compile statistics based on multiple criteria, such as standardized test performance, graduation rates and Advanced Placement exams results. The best-of rankings also include graduation rates, a score for college readiness and a tier system symbolized by medals.

Of the more than 60 Georgia schools on the list, 18 were awarded gold medals, 45 earned silver medals and 48 received bronze medals.

Here are the Cobb schools that made the list in order of appearance:


  • Walton High School - No. 5 - 94 graduation rate, 70.7 in college readiness; Gold
  • Lassiter High School- No. 16 -- 94 percent graduation rate; 57.1 in college readiness; Gold
  • Pope High School - No. 22 -- 92 percent graduation rate; 51.7 in college readiness; Silver
  • Harrison High School - No. 24 -- 94 percent graduation rate; 49.3 in college readiness
  • Hillgrove High School - No. 34 -- 91 percent graduation rate; 39.0 in college readiness
  • Wheeler High School - No. 45 -- 79 percent graduation rate; 32 in college readiness; Silver
  • Kennesaw Mountain High School - No. 51 -- 84 percent graduation; 30.6 in college readiness; Silver
  • Allatoona High School - No. 62 -- 89 percent graduation rate; 21.7 in college readiness; Silver

    In the national rankings, Walter came in No. 204, according to the U.S. News report.
