Here are the top three stories in Marietta today:

  1. Robert Lanier New, a former police officer in Cobb County, has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and cruelty to children for assaulting a mentally disabled woman. The incident, reported by a samaritan, involved choking and assaulting a woman during sexual activity in 2018. New, who had worked in multiple police departments and served as a police chief, was released on bond but has been returned to jail following his guilty plea. 2. An alleged burglary led to a SWAT standoff on Tuesday, May 23 in Cobb County. One suspect is now in custody after breaking into the Stop and Shop on Windy Hill Road. One person was working in the store at the time, however, security systems alerted the store owner of a break-in that occurred at 4 a.m. Police thought there may have been two suspects and had the road closed near the convenience store through the morning hours searching for multiple suspects but have since confirmed it was only one person. The investigation is still ongoing. (MSN)
  3. Lynn Aauron Mctier, the at-fault driver in a fatal collision on Cobb Parkway, turned himself in and is now facing one felony charge and seven misdemeanors, including homicide by vehicle and DUI. The Marietta Police Department's STEP Unit collected evidence and reviewed video footage from the incident, resulting in the arrest warrant. The collision involved Mctier's Lexus crossing the median and striking a Ford Transit van and a Volkswagen Jetta before hitting and killing a pedestrian named Crystal Norris. • Police are searching for a missing teen from Alabama that could be in the nearby Atlanta or Smyrna area. Leah McDonald was last seen on May 14 near High Street in Jacksonville, Alabama, and has not returned home since. Police say she may be traveling in a white car with Florida license plates and was last seen in a black shirt, brown shorts, and blue sneakers. (WSB Atlanta)
