Ex-Marietta Coach To Face Sex Abuse Trial In June: ICYMI

MARIETTA, GA -- A former Marietta wrestling coach accused of sexually abusing young boys is scheduled to go to trial in Pennsylvania in June, officials said. Ron Gorman, 51, has had an increasing number of charges levied against him since his early March arrest at his East Cobb home. In September, Pennsylvania authorities began investigating allegations that Gorman, who lived there in the earlier part of the decade, had allegedly inappropriate relationships with boys from his time as a youth coach there.

He is now facing 513 charges related to sexual abuse with minors, according to new documents obtained by Patch from Pennsylvania authorities.

The charges stem from Gorman's time in the Stroudsburg area as a youth wrestling coach from 2006 through 2009. One former athlete who is 20 years old now claims that Gorman started a five-year sexual relationship with him when he was 10 years old. A second alleged victim also went to authorities with similar allegations.

Last week, Assistant District Attorney Julieane Fry withdrew an initial criminal complaint filed on behalf of the second victim after "new information had come forward which required additional charges to be filed for the same victim," according to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office.

The move means the charges Gorman was originally facing, more than 260, including rape of a child, statutory sexual assault and corruption of a minor, have nearly doubled.

Gorman moved to Georgia in 2009 and quickly began working around youths again.

Rumors about Gorman, who was a volunteer coach at Pope High School and later a wrestling coach at Life University, have been floating around for some time in Marietta and East Cobb parenting circles, Patch has learned.

In a hearing Friday in a Pennsylvania courtroom, testimony from investigators indicated that although he moved down South, Gorman continued to have contact with the two Stroudsburg boys, flying them to his East Cobb home and meeting up with them when he traveled to Monroe County, Pa.

Gorman remains behind bars at Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1 million bail. He is scheduled to go to trial in June.
