Gang-Related Shootings Injure 3 In Cobb: Police

Five people have been charged in the shootings, which police say were between two "non-traditional hybrid neighborhood gangs" in Cobb.

MARIETTA, GA — Two shootings that previously injured three teenagers are connected and are gang-related, Marietta Police said in an update released Monday.

Police said the two shootings happened in April, two days apart, in various parts of Marietta.

Five people have been charged in the shootings, which police said were between two “non-traditional hybrid neighborhood gangs.”

The first shooting occurred the night of April 19 near the Natchez Trace and Powder Springs Street intersection, where bullets were fired at four people walking along Natchez, police said.

A teenage boy was shot twice and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said, adding he is recovering from his injuries.

The following people have been arrested in connection with the shooting, per police: Jemaaree Marion, 17; Jordan Almestica, 17; Isiah Sexton, 20; and a juvenile.

They are all from Marietta and are facing four counts of aggravated assault with intent to murder, police said. The three named arrestees are in custody at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, while the juvenile is in custody at the Cobb County Youth Detention Center, police said.

Then, on April 21, a shooting near the Allgood Road and North Marietta Parkway intersection injured two teenagers, police said. Four people total had been walking along Allgood at the time of the shooting, police said.

The two teenagers were in serious condition and were taken to local hospitals, police said. They, too, are recovering, police said.

The following week, police said Xavier Moreno, 17, was arrested and faced 11 felonies and three misdemeanor charges in connection with the Allgood shooting.

Previously, police said Moreno was arrested on charges of nine counts of aggravated assault with intent to murder, second-degree criminal damage, two counts of criminal trespass damage, possession of a pistol by a minor and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Moreno, who remained in custody Monday, has now been charged under Georgia's gang act, police said.

A motive in the shootings was not revealed.
