GBI Investigates Austell Police Chief, K-9 Expenses
Austell Police Chief Bob Starrett and the department's K-9 expenses are under investigation by the GBI after a Fox 5 I-Team inquiry.
COBB COUNTY, GA — Austell Police Chief Bob Starrett and the department's K-9 expenses are now under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation following an Open Records Act request by Fox 5 Atlanta's I-Team, the news outlet reported.
Fox 5 sent the Open Records Act request to the Austell Police Department for veterinarian bills, seeking information on which K-9s were treated, who brought the dog in and what medications were on the bills. But the request was not fulfilled, because the GBI was already called in to investigate.
When the Austell Police Department received the request, they went to Bullard Animal Hospital for the bills, but employees didn't want to turn them over, according to Fox 5. When APD found what was described as "discrepancies" on the bills and they couldn't get access to more, they called in the GBI.
