Get Out: Show House, Camp Rock, Story Time and a Police Open House

It's Thursday, the weekend is around the corner, and you have no idea what to do. At Marietta Patch, we have compiled the best bets for a great weekend.

Essential Marietta happenings for the weekend:

1) The inaugural Art & Design Show House starts Saturday. It is brought to the community by the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art and all proceeds benefit the museum.

The show house will feature 16 rooms by 21 local designers, all centered around original art. Tickets to see the show house May 7-22 can be purchased for $15 in advance or for $20 at the door. One admission includes both the tour of the show house and the gallery, both located at 21 Whitlock Drive.

2) The entire family is invited to a storytelling event at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Central Library. This event features well-known local storytellers B.J. Abraham, Natalie Jones and Jo Sanders.

This hour is in memory of Jean Stromberg, a remarkable storyteller whose love of libraries and storytelling lives on with this annual free event. For more information, please call the Central Library at 770-528-2320.

3) The Marietta Police Department is hosting an Open House from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Residents are encouraged to come to the police department to get a good look at the facility and some specialized equipment that they use daily.

The Community Response Unit will be registering bicycles. First 40 are free. The K-9 Unit will be conducting K-9 demonstrations. Members of the Marietta Police SWAT team will have a display of various specialized pieces of equipment that the SWAT team utilizes.

The Crime Scene Unit will also have a display of equipment used while processing crime scenes.  There will also be free hot dogs and drinks served.

4) The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is being held Friday and Saturday at Jim Miller Park. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. For more information, call 770-429-0089.

5) Cobb's Children's Theatre presents Disney's "Camp Rock" this weekend at the. Jennie T. Anderson Theatre, Cobb Civic Center, 548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta.

Talented middle and high school students will perform. Friday; 8 p.m., Saturday, 2 and 8 p.m., Sunday, 3 p.m. Here's more information.
