Good Samaritan Holds Suspected Carjacker At Gunpoint In Cobb: Police
A Good Samaritan held a man at gunpoint after he tried to carjack two vehicles in Cobb County, police said.
MARIETTA, GA — A Smyrna man accused in two attempted carjackings was held at gunpoint by a Good Samaritan until officers arrived, Marietta Police said Thursday.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Delk Road and Franklin Gateway.
Police said Rico Riley, 32, was first pacing at a Franklin Gateway gas station near a Chevrolet Aveo. When the owner tried to get into her car after leaving the gas station, police said Riley grabbed her and fought for control of her car keys.

A minute into the altercation, police said a 66-year-old man ran from across the street to intervene in the dispute.
When confronted, police said Riley ran into the road and tried to carjack a Toyota Rav 4 that was stopped at the traffic light. Two adults and a 2-year-old child were in the Toyota at the time, police said.

The Good Samaritan then intervened in the second incident, holding Riley at gunpoint until officers arrived, police said.
Riley was arrested on charges of attempted armed robbery, attempted robbery snatch, third-degree cruelty to child and VGCSA possession of cocaine, police said. He was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, police said.
"Choosing to intervene in a violent situation must be a personal decision, weighed carefully against the risks involved. We commend (the Good Samaritan) for his quick actions that protected multiple community members. Anyone finding themselves witnessing a crime in progress is urged to focus on safety, be a good witness and call 911," police said in a news release.
