Kennesaw Mall Bathroom Attacker Sentenced To Prison: Prosecutor
Authorities say a man admitted attacking a 12-year-old girl in a mall bathroom. She escaped while he was restrained until police arrived.
MARIETTA, GA — The man who attacked a child in Town Center Mall in 2018 will serve 25 years in prison, according to a release from the Cobb County district attorney.
The prosecutor says Danzell Mitchell, 28, admitted on Wednesday to attacking a 12-year-old girl in the bathroom of the mall on May 8, 2018, by holding a knife in attempt to stop her from moving.
The girl screamed and was able to escape. She got to her father and customers in the mall restrained Mitchell until Cobb police arrived, the release says.

"What happened to this child is every parent’s worst nightmare; however, the victim’s bravery in the face of her attacker led to her escape and ultimately, her safety," Courtney Veal, senior assistant district attorney, said in the release.
"We are hopeful this resolution will provide the closure needed for family’s healing and send the message that preying on and harming children in our community will not be tolerated," Veal said.

Mitchell pleaded guilty to false imprisonment, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children in the first degree, according to the release. He was sentenced to 50 years, 25 in prison and 25 on probation.
The release says Mitchell still faces Fulton County charges in relation to an alleged 2017 attack on a woman in an Alpharetta park.
