Here are the top three stories in Marietta today:
- A catering company in Marietta is feeling an impact from the ongoing Writer's Guild of America strike. Will Adamek, managing partner of Atlanta Craft Services, said in an interview that orders are down by around 40 percent. Atlanta Craft Services provides catering for film and television productions, as well as commercials and game shows. The state of Georgia has a $4 billion film and television industry, with tens of thousands of workers that could be impacted by the writer's strike. (WSBTV)
- In nearby East Cobb, the families of the victims of a Feb. 13 apartment fire are grappling with the knowledge that the building's sprinkler system was damaged, and both the Cobb County Fire Marshall and the apartment's management knew about it for weeks prior to the blaze. However, state law does not require that tenants be notified about a faulty sprinkler system. In December 2022, the Hamptons of East Cobb failed a sprinkler inspection for three of six buildings, and a follow-up inspection in January revealed 88 sprinkler heads in need of cleaning or replacement. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- The Cobb County Board of Commissioners is considering adding a mobile payment option for CobbLinc buses. The Cobb County Department of Transportation proposed working with the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority to install a Breeze card system similar to what is currently used for MARTA trains and buses. Under the proposal, the authority would pay for 80 percent of the cost to install the equipment, and Cobb would pay the remaining 20 percent. (Yahoo! News)
