Mableton Inaugural Mayoral, City Council Races Go To Runoff

Only two Mableton City Council races were decided in Tuesday's special election.

MABLETON, GA — Several races in Mableton are projected to head into a runoff after a historic special election Tuesday, according to results published by Fox 5 Atlanta.

The Secretary of State's office did not publish results in the Mableton election.

After being voted an incorporated city in November 2022, Tuesday was the city's first time holding elections to vote in its first mayor and city council members.

Ron Davis is the projected winner in the District 1 city council seat against opponent DeBorah Johnson. Davis obtained 52 percent of the votes while Johnson had 48 percent.

Deborah Herndon ran unopposed for District 6 city council.

In Georgia, candidates must reach the 50 percent plus one vote threshold to avoid a runoff. The following races did not meet the voting requirement and will go into a runoff on April 18.

Mayoral candidates Aaron Carman and Michael Owens will face off once more after Carman garnered 36 percent of the votes to Owens' 31 percent.

Monica Delancy had 38 percent while Dami Oladapo had 33 percent of the votes in the race for the District 2 city council seat.

Keisha Jeffcoat had 31 percent with Yashica Marshall securing 24 percent of the votes in the District 3 city council race.

Patricia Auch held on to 46 percent of the votes for District 4 city council while Cassandra Brown had 20 percent of the votes.

TJ Ferguson had 41 percent of the votes for District 5 city council while Cheryl Davis had 32 percent.

To vote in the runoff, voters had to have been registered by Feb. 21.
