Marietta Considers Valet Service On The Square

City Council will vote next week on hiring a company for parking.

MARIETTA, GA -- Parking spaces on the Marietta Square are about to become even more coveted and downright fancy schmancy if a new measure before city lawmakers is approved.

The Marietta City Council next month will vote on whether to let vehicles on the Square be parked via valet service, according to news reports.

The city would use Georgia Valet Services, which is based in Marietta.

At $5 a pop, the plan would permit valet three days of the week -- Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, the WGCL reports.

Councilman Philip Goldstein said that he would steer clear of the project because he owned property in the vicinity.

“I told them specifically I would not because I did not want to be taken away from this table, and I declined to get in a relationship with them for that reason,” Goldstein said, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. “I believe they are looking at the lot next door that’s owned by another property owner as their backup, but I will tell you, those eight spaces they mentioned are not something I have approved, and I told them specifically I will not approve. So at this point, I will step down for this meeting, but I don’t expect to at the next one.”

If the measure is approved a three-month trial by Georgia Valet Services would reportedly begin in April.
