Here are the top three stories in Marietta today:

  1. A man from Marietta was arrested and charged for a fatal crash that happened in March on I-575. The man, Kevin Phyfe, is facing multiple charges, including reckless driving, DUI, and first-degree homicide by vehicle. The crash resulted in the death of Sebastian Alonzo Domingo, who was the occupant of a blue Honda Accord that was hit head-on by Phyfe's truck. (Patch)
  2. The nearby City of Acworth is closing the School Street crossing permanently due to safety concerns after dozens of tractor-trailers got stuck on the train tracks, causing collisions. The city had put up warning signs, but they were not effective, and many vehicles continued to use the crossing. City leaders decided to prioritize safety over public convenience, citing the resources that were being used to respond to crashes and clean up. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. On Apr. 22, a child died in a car crash in nearby Powder Springs that involved an adult male driver and another child passenger. The driver, Gregory P. Sagnan, 38, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into trees off the roadway, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries for himself and a 12-year-old boy in the front passenger seat. Unfortunately, a 12-year-old boy who was riding in the backseat was killed. The Cobb County Police Department is investigating the fatal collision and seeking additional information from the public.
