Marietta Officer Recovering After Being Knocked Unconscious

Here is a timeline of events that led to the capture of a man with a long criminal record late last week in Marietta.

MARIETTA, GA -- A Marietta police officer is expected to make a full recovery in the wake of an attack last week that left him briefly unconscious. Police are praising the actions of a local community that worked with local police and 911 dispatched that led to the apprehension of Jordoan Myles, 27, who had already been arrested by police 12 times in the past.

Police have provided a timeline of the events that led to Myles' capture, a series of events that began early on the morning of May 16:

  • 12:52 am -- A neighbor hears a car alarm going off and receives an alert from their Ring camera. They review their Ring video and discover it captured a person flipping door handles and attempting to enter vehicles. The resident calls 911 to report the suspicious activity, providing the call taker with a description of the suspect as well as the direction he left on foot a few minutes before they called.
  • 12:54 am -- Officers arrive in the area and begin searching for the suspect.
  • 1 am -- Police locate the suspect and inform 911 dispatchers the suspect is running between yards and climbing over fences.
  • 1:01 am -- Officers set up a perimeter and continue their search.
  • 1:02 am -- Police can no longer hear the suspect moving in the dark and continue their search.
  • 1:08 am -- 911 receives another call, this time from a woman stating someone appeared to be trying to hide on their back porch.
  • 1:09 am -- The new call (updated information) was dispatched.
  • 1:10 am -- Police confronted the suspicious person and a struggle ensued.
  • 1:12 am -- The suspect is detained.

During the struggle, a Marietta police officer was struck in the face and briefly knocked unconscious. He was taken WellStar Kennestone Hospital and later released.

Myles has had 43 different contacts with Marietta police. He is now facing charges of obstruction/hindering law enforcement and loitering/prowling.

The resident who called 911 to inform us the suspect was hiding on their porch, Mr. Steve Morrow, stated:

“I know it is a cliché, but I saw firsthand, the officers rushed into a situation not knowing whether the suspect had a weapon or not and saved my wife and I from a life changing event,” said Steve Morrow, who called police when he saw the suspect hiding on his porch. “These officers risked their lives for me and my wife.”
