Marietta Police Buys, Repurposes Old School Buses

The buses will be used for road blocks and comfort stations during emergencies.

MARIETTA, GA -- Police have purchased four recently decommissioned Marietta school buses to be used as road blocks and comfort stations during emergencies.

"Cities around the United States and even in other countries have been looking for innovative ways to provide safety and protection for outdoor gatherings," said Marietta police spokesman Chuck McPhilamy. "The buses provide easy, affordable, movable, attractive road blocks for the many times we need to close streets around the city. This will enable us to close roads and reroute traffic for sporting, entertainment events and festivals."

Marietta-based Adnormous Graphics won the contract to repaint and wrap the exterior of the busses. Two of the four buses were finished in time for the city's July 4 festivities. The other buses are scheduled to be refinished within a few months.

"While all four will be used to close roads when needed, two will also be repurposed to use as comfort stations in emergency situations," McPhilamy said.
